GRASTON TECHNIQUE

Restore Muscle Function and Minimize the Impact of Scar Tissue

Graston Technique is a treatment method for soft tissue injuries. It involves the use of unique handheld instruments along with a special type of massage. The technique is designed to identify the areas of restriction and break down scar tissue which helps to encourage proper healing of the tissue.

HOW THE GRASTON TECHNIQUE HELPS

The Graston Technique is aimed at reducing your muscle pain and improving muscle function. Here is how the treatment helps:

The certified clinicians at Phoenix Physiotherapy Clinic use Graston Technique for the diagnosis to treatment of scar tissue.

  • Effleurage to encourage the movement of swelling and inflammatory chemicals to toward lymph nodes
  • Reducing pressure on neural tissue to decrease tissue sensitivity and overall pain cues.
  • Cross friction massage to re-introduce trauma such as Achilles tendonitis or tennis elbow to increase tissue healing.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a three-dimensional system involving three layers of connective tissue spread from the feet through the head. Fascia restrictions can happen in any or all of the three layers:

  • Superficial fascia – lies directly below the skin, stores fat and water, and allows the muscle to move the skin

  • Deep fascia – infuses with bone, muscle, nerves, and blood vessels to the cellular level

  • Visceral fascia – provides the packing tissue for the organs of the body

What is

Myofascial Therapy?

Myofascial therapy is a manual technique often used in massage. It focuses on pain arising from myofascial tissues (the tough membranes that wrap, support, and connect your muscles).

It focuses on pain arising from restricted myofacial tissue.
